Biography

Tsutomu Shimabukuro

1963 Born in Naha City, Okinawa, Japan

1983 Established his own company when he was 20 years old. Since then, the company has grown through developing of new systems.

2001 Both of his legs below the knees were amputated during a railroad crossing accident in Chiba Prefecture in mainland Japan while on his way back from an IT businesses trip from the US. He also suffered from a higher dysfunction (disorder of memory).

2002 Hospitalized for 20 months after the accident and was quickly released from the hospital in order to cope with his business crisis.

2003 Returned to society and reassumed as the president of the company at the same time to recover his business. .

Nov., 2004 Completed a 3k-run for the first time with artificial legs.

Dec., 2004 Finished the Honolulu Marathon (42.195km).

2005 Finished various marathons at different locations in Japan and overseas to include: Vancouver (Canada), Gold Coast (Australia), New York City Marathons (U.S.A.) etc.

Jan., 2006 Climbed Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina.

Aug., 2007 Climbed to summit of Mt. Fuji.

Aug., 2008 Climbed to summit of Mt. Fuji from1st stage.

Nov., 2009 Finished cycling around Okinawa Island (313km) in Tour de Okinawa

Nov., 2010 Finished cycling around Okinawa for second time (323km).in Tour de Okinawa

Aug., 2011  Climbed to summit of Mt., Fuji (Cycling up to 5th stage of Mt. Fuji from sea level altitude zero point of Suruga Bay.

Oct., 2011 Finished cycling around Boso Peninsula (366kmin 3 days) in Tour de Chiba

Nov., 2011 Finished cycling around OkinawaIsland  (323km).in Tour de Okinawa

profile02.jpgEven now, he continues to participate in running marathons and climbing mountains in order to acquire spirit of "Never give up." While accomplishing his responsibilities to run Lacima Corporation, he gives speeches as "guest speaker" at the requests of organizations and schools as his activities to contribute to societies.

He wrote a book titled "Runner with artificial legs published by Bungeisha Co., Ltd.." He also received the 29th "Ryukyu Shimpo Social Action Award" in JFY 2006 and 20th "Runners Award" in JFY 2007.
