What is the Shimabara ?

It is a wild rose which has grown in Okinawa for a long time.
Satomi Kurita calls them Shimabara. According to a reference book, it's called Koshinbara (Rosa chinensis) and was originally from China.

 

English names: China Rose, Monthly Rose
Nature and Conduct: Evergreen Shrub
Origin: China, Upper Chang Jiang River Valley
Features: Dark rose pink semi-double petal flowers (The wild  rose  with single petal flowers). Tends to blossom all year round. It's thanks to them modern roses open all the year.
Introduced into Japan a long time ago, with records dating back to the 11th century.
